After the morning briefing from our professor, those of us who had interviews scheduled went off to do work while the rest of us took the free time we had and went sightseeing. I joined a party of six or so (Jay, Jason, Eugene, Kit, Sean, Ben...) to explore Central Brussels and see Grand Place, eat some frites and waffles, check out some sneaker boutiques, and just doing touristy things in general. Realised how unenriched my previous post was, just a series of photos with little to no captions, so I shall attempt to furnish this one more. It just gets tiring when you have a short attention span and are terribly distracted.
We were very fortunate to have had splendid weather that day. The sky wasn't cloudless but the sun rays glistened on the gold gilded edges of the intricate carvings on those preserved buildings that formed the perimeter of the main square. There were no throngs of tourists so it was pleasant and spacious. I took my time in getting as many shots as I could that would capture the grandeur of the area (which I gradually got used to over the next four or five times coming here). Not forgetting some gratuitous full-body shots.
That hair color lol. |
These photos do not do enough justice! |
Where we went for waffles! Tad more expensive but the quality is there. For some reason, dining-in was like 40c more expensive than take-away... |
On the left, we have the Liege waffles. Right, Brussels waffles. Liege is more soft, chewy, and sweetened. Brussels is crispy, less doughy, and lighter on the carbs (I feel). |
First meal of frites and kebab. Shared this platter among three (2 guys 1 girl). Was filling enough! Maybe around 5 euros per person? |
Of course, Belgium is known for its wide selection of craft beers so we HAD to get us some cheap beers. (Yes, we went to Delirium. More on that in a later post.) |
