Motosumiyoshi Residence - Keio University Dormitory
When I found out Motosumiyoshi (from hereon referred to as Moto) was the newest option out of all the dorms that Keio offered, I camped for the start of housing registration and immediately went in and applied the moment the clock struck 10am (Japanese time). I was quite lucky to be assigned Moto and here are the top few reasons why I'd recommend it:
1. You get your own room which includes a bathroom, toilet, washing machine, microwave, fridge, kitchenette, and balcony (for hang-drying laundry). Of course you get a bed, a wardrobe, and a study table too.
2. It costs 64,000 yen per month. And the dormitory managers Mr and Mrs Kotani are super nice people!
3. The nearest train stations are Hiyoshi and Motosumiyoshi (10min walk either way), both on the Tokyu-Toyoko and Tokyu-Meguro lines. One station from Motosumiyoshi is JR Musashi Kousugi where you can transfer to JR Nambu, Shinkansen, Narita Express (N'EX) and the like.
4. There is a supermarket right downstairs -- Motomachi Union. Prices are decent, sometimes even cheaper than grocery stores you have to travel some distance to get to. Do look out for their weekly 100yen + tax set of 12 eggs every Wednesday or Thursday (or was it 10 I can't remember). Basically, each day has its own special promotion just check the in-store posters.
5. Ministop and 7-Eleven are within less than 5min walking distance.
6. Bedding and air-con provided (even has one winter quilt and one summer blanket).
7. Technically the rules say that you are not supposed to bring friends over but if you and your guests behave and don't cause trouble (i.e. make loud noises, break windows, disturb neighbours, do drugs, drink until someone gets alcohol poisoning. . . you get what trouble is).
8. Nice rubber/spongy flooring in the main room area that looks like wooden planks. The flooring at the hallway leading to the door is actually wood.
9. You get to grab stuff that previous residents left behind when you first move in so you save a lot of money! If you're early, you could even get a hairdryer, rice cooker, electric kettle, humidifier. . . if you do get mine please take good care of them ;_; I paid for them brand new but couldn't take them away with me.
here. Do hop over to check out her photos and comments! I think she did a much better introduction of her dormitory room than I. Feel free to comment if you have any questions. Thanks for reading :)
