Kyushu Trip: Day 8-??

From here on, I traveled with Ryan, Cleon and Klins because the rest had to go elsewhere. We explored Miyazaki and Beppu together. There was Udo Shrine which is in the scenic cliff area and we were fortunate for the good weather to enjoy that day.

Horikiri Pass

Delicious cheese thingy. Although it was cream cheese...
Rabbit symbolizes fertility
Famous niku maki for supper (meat roll)
Kind of tired of having only Japanese food for days, then we chanced upon this value-for-money Italian restaurant back in town.

Best Tempura I've ever tasted in my life. Small restaurant just in front of Beppu Station
Breakfast at Hotel Yoshimi. The rooms were really old, toilet floor was flooded with water, free onsen but the water was WAY too hot to go in. In short, would not recommend. However, the old folks running the place were nice people.

Bursting with flavour
I think this was hotate (scallop)? Fresh
Fatty tuna was served in thick, fresh slices
My all-time must order item
Off to the seven hells we go!
So many crocodiles were kept there including these little guys. However, I strongly feel that they were not meant to be brought to Beppu. You can see most of the poor creatures have their scales peeling off and their snout not looking very healthy. Not to mention the enclosures were overcrowded too :(
KAPIBARAAAAAAAA
Hungry hippo
This reminded me of the crying tree babies in Harry Potter
These fellas wanted to soak their feet in every single footbath we came across.
Too cheapo to pay ~Y200 for the bus. Walked for 20~30min instead, and we ended up missing the last entry to the Chi no Ike (Hell that looks like a raw steak from above). Words can't describe our disappointment. On the bright side, we managed to catch a glimpse of what we believed was Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in the distance on top of the mountain.
Also the staff were gracious enough to let us in for the last showtime of the Dragon Geyser, even though we were the only ones there. Thank you kind souls. At least we didn't walk for nothing.
Some expensive Yakiniku to wrap up the day. A platter of lettuce cost Y540, roughly S$6.20
Very nice place to soak in the hot springs of Beppu. Entrance fee discounted after 7 or 8pm and you get a decent variety of different hot springs including a waterfall massage area, sand baths, outdoor bath, indoor bath with jacuzzi, hot sauna.

Next stop, back to Fukuoka with Klins.
